In the town of West Orange, New Jersey, two best friends, David and Terry, live with their families as neighbors. When Terry’s daughter Nina returns home after being away for a long time, she and David fall for each other. David has a secret affair with Nina, while Paige is his wife. The truth soon comes out and everybody has to now face the consequences of this relationship. Being aware of the affair, Vanessa, David’s daughter, also sees the strain on her parents’ relationship. The narration of the entire story is done by her.
The film features Leighton Meester as Nina Ostroff and Hugh Laurie as David Waling. We also see Oliver Platt as Terry Ostroff, Alia Shawkat as Vanessa, Allison Janney as Carol and Catherine Keener as Paige.
