‘Orange Is the New Black’ Star Teaches Conan to Scat
On Thursday, Lea DeLaria left the prison yard and visited Conan. The Orange is the New Black star showed that she is a woman of many talents. Aside from being a talented actress and a hilarious comedian, she is also a great jazz singer.
Having sung with Conan O’Brien in the past, she thought she would take him to the next level. She explained, “Now what we’re going to do is we’re going to scat. That’s a kind of jazz singing that we use when we forget the words to songs.”
DeLaria gave a cue to Jimmy Vivino, and the Basic Cable Band and began scatting, with O’Brien following her lead. Though her character on the Orange is the New Black is gruff, her singing was shockingly sweet.
Conan airs weeknights at 11 p.m. on TBS.
