Nearly 100 members of the church started the day unloading truckloads of food in the church parking lot and packing it into vehicles for delivery.

The food bank unloaded dozens of pallets of food and personal care products weighing a total of about 30 tons.

Once the food was organized and bagged, 175 volunteer drivers loaded up their cars and began delivering it to low-income neighborhoods in West Orange County.

The food bank says it took just over an hour to make the deliveries to more than 900 homes.

In addition to the food, each care package included a bag of baked goods, other groceries and “a cheerful greeting.”

Once the deliveries were done, another 170 boxes of food were left over. They’ll be given to the charities that regularly receive food from the food bank.

Some of the boxes could be included in another Food for Families event being organized ahead of Christmas. Volunteers are already prepared to sort and pack more tons of food on December 3 and 10 that will then be distributed on December 17.
