Orange County Animal Services waives adoption fees as overcrowding continues

The Orange County Animal Shelter is running out of space, the organization said Thursday.

The shelter is currently caring for more than 500 animals, with some at the shelter and others in foster care.

Because of the overcrowding, Animal Services will waive the adoption fee on 60 animals that can be adopted right away – ones that have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

Animal Services said the shelter received 68 animals Wednesday and 33 of them were given up by their families.

Orange County Animal Services manager Diane Summers said they have two requests for the community.

“For those in a position to adopt, we implore you to visit the shelter today and take home a pet,” Summers said.”For those that have found an animal or are looking to rehome one, please exhaust every possible option.”

The shelter also has a Sleepover Program where families can take the pets home as a free trial adoption for up to two weeks.
