Oprah Winfrey Wants to Know: 'Where Do We Go From Here?'

Oprah Winfrey is returning to television as a host and moderator for two nights only — and for one vital reason.

On Thursday, the television and media trailblazer announced with the Oprah Winfrey Network that she would be hosting a two-night television special called OWN Spotlight: Where Do We Go From Here? The special will air on Tuesday, June 8, and Wednesday, June 9, and feature conversations between Winfrey and Black leaders like Fair Fight founder Stacey Abrams, journalist Charles M. Blow, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, filmmaker Ava DuVernay, psychologist Jennifer Eberhardt, journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones, historian Ibram X. Kendi, Selma actor David Oyelowo, Color of Change founder Rashad Robinson, and NAACP national board member Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, per a press release obtained by the Hollywood Reporter.

The special will center primarily on the pervasive crisis of racism in America, and how it affects Black Americans especially at every turn. In a statement, Winfrey noted that the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May, as well as the nationwide protests and the police brutality that many forces have exhibited in response, inspired the broadcast.

“I’ve been having private conversations with friends and thought leaders about what’s next and where we go from here,” Winfrey said. “I thought it would be of both interest and service to bring their ideas, concerns, and comments into a national spotlight.
