Oprah Winfrey is set to explore the growing trend of people using alternative methods to drop pounds in a new televised special. An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution, airing on March 18 on ABC, is described as a “sit-down conversation around the radical impact of prescription weight loss medication.” It will be available to stream the following day on Hulu.

Recorded with a live audience, the primetime program speaks to both medical experts and everyday people who have taken Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, and other prescription diabetes and weight loss medications.

“It is a very personal topic for me and for the hundreds of millions of people impacted around the globe who have for years struggled with weight and obesity,” detailed the 70-year-old in a press statement. “This special will bring together medical experts, leaders in the space, and people in the day-to-day struggle to talk about health equity and obesity with the intention to ultimately release the shame, judgment, and stigma surrounding weight.”

Earlier this year, The Color Purple producer stepped down from the WeightWatchers board with a proposal to donate her 10% share in the company to the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC).

“Her decision was not the result of any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies, or practices,” relayed WeightWatchers in a statement.

Last year, the media mogul shared how she overcame her own “shame” related to taking medication to slim down.

“The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift, and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for. I’m absolutely done with the shaming from other people and particularly myself,” Winfrey explained.

She did not disclose which specific prescription she obtained.
