Oprah Winfrey Is a Bombshell in Body-Con Gown at 2024 Golden Globes (Yes, of Course She's Wearing Purple!)

The media mogul stepped out in custom Louis Vuitton to present as well as to show her support for The Color Purple, which she coproduced

Oprah Winfrey is keeping her purple style streak alive!

The entertainment queen, 69, looked regal at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday in a bold custom Louis Vuitton purple dress and matching shoes. The look was a loving nod to The Color Purple, which she co-produced.

The media icon was in attendance to support the film (Fantasia Barrino, who plays Celie, is nominated for best performance by a female actor in a motion picture - musical or comedy while Danielle Brooks, who plays Sofia, is nominated for best performance by a female actor in a supporting role in any motion picture) as well as to present.

Speaking with Extra, Oprah said the gown took "600 hours" to make.

“Three women . . . It’s like a work of art," she told Extra. "I am gonna hate to take it off, I’m gonna need three people to take it off.”

Winfrey has worn a plethora of purple looks while promoting The Color Purple. Of sporting the hue during the press tour, she joked to PEOPLE, “I'm doing for purple what Barbie did for pink!”

At the Los Angeles premiere on Dec. 6, she wore a custom silk jersey gown by Dolce & Gabbana that featured a square neckline, a floor-sweeping train and a slit. She accessorized with a sparkly purple clutch, ring and shoes.

On the red carpet, she addressed her slimmed-down figure to Entertainment Tonight. “It's not one thing, it's everything,” she told the outlet at the time.

In her PEOPLE cover story, Winfrey elaborated on her approach to maintaining a healthy weight, sharing that it includes regular exercise and the use of a weight-loss medication.

"I eat my last meal at 4 o’clock, drink a gallon of water a day, and use the WeightWatchers principles of counting points. I had an awareness of [weight-loss] medications, but felt I had to prove I had the willpower to do it. I now no longer feel that way."

At the Elle Women in Hollywood awards ceremony on Dec. 5, she wore a sequin suit and added pops of purple with her ring, handbag and heels.

"If you don't have purple to wear to [watch The Color Purple], you can always do purple accessories like I did," she wrote of the look on Instagram.

For the Academy Museum Gala on Dec. 3, the talk show host for 25 years wowed in another custom Dolce & Gabbana gown, this one a long-sleeve, sequin-covered design. She added glitz to the fit with a ring by Effy Jewelry and a pair of statement, shoulder-grazing earrings from Hamilton Jewelers.

At Variety's Power of Women ceremony on Nov. 16, Winfrey chose a pastel lilac Dries Van Noten pantsuit and matching peep-toe heels.

Her first nod to purple came on Nov. 15 at the National Book Awards. She wore a plum dress with plume-embellished sleeves.

The film is an adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical inspired by the 1982 Alice Walker novel. It debuted in theaters on Dec. 25 and was a holiday hit, becoming the second-biggest Christmas Day opening of all time.

The original film premiered in 1985 with Oprah starring as Sofia. The star was nominated for an Academy Award for her breakout performance in it, for which she took home a $35,000 paycheck.

"Doing the [original] film was the most important thing that had ever happened to me and continues to be a central theme in my life," Winfrey told PEOPLE.

She added that the movie — which was nominated for 11 total Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Whoopi Goldberg — "is the reason I ended up owning my own show, why I learned to surrender, do the hardest work and then let that work go."

Winfrey did consider making a cameo in the 2023 movie, but ultimately chose not to.

“I thought it would also be distracting when Sofia is getting married that if the old original Sofia was just one of the people in the church," she told The Hollywood Reporter.
