Oprah Announces New Documentary on Sexual Assault in the Music Industry

Oprah Winfrey is producing a new documentary film focused on sexual assault in the music industry. According to a press release, the film centers on a “former music executive who grapples with whether to go public with her story of assault and abuse by a notable figure in the music industry.” The currently untitled film will be produced and co-directed by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering and is set to premiere in 2020 on Apple TV+.

Update: The Los Angeles Times reports that the music executive featured is Drew Dixon, a former Def Jam executive who accused Russell Simmons of sexually harassing and raping her in 1995. Simmons has since been accused of sexual assault by several other women, sued for $5 million and $10 million in separate lawsuits, deleted his social media accounts, and stepped down from his role in running Def Jam.

Earlier this year, Oprah interviewed two men who accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse for an HBO program titled “Oprah Winfrey Presents: After Neverland.”
