The red carpet portion of the Oppenheimer U.S. premiere has been canceled.

Oppenheimer is Christopher Nolan’s upcoming historical thriller starring Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer in the lead role. This movie features the protagonist during the invention of the atomic bomb. The film has had red carpet premieres in Paris and the United Kingdom. The cast walked out of the U.K. premiere before the screening to stand in solidarity with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors strike.

The movie is going to have its United States premiere in New York City at the AMC Lincoln Square 13 on Monday, July 17, 2023. While the film will still screen at the premiere, the cast will no longer attend as the strike prevents SAG-AFTRA members from promoting their movie.

“In support of the ongoing SAG strike, the filmmakers of Oppenheimer will not be proceeding with the NY premiere as originally planned, and will instead screen the movie to celebrate the crew and craftspeople who contributed to making this landmark film,” a statement from Universal Pictures read (via Variety).

Actors that may have shown up would have included Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh.
