Open-mic event 'Sonnet Slam' to celebrate the art form known as the sonnet on April 19

SOUTH BEND — The local theater troupe Shades of Orange presents a “Sonnet Slam” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 19 in the ballroom of the main branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library, 304 S. Main St.

Staged as an open-mic event in honor of Poetry Month, “Sonnet Slam” provides an opportunity for writers, poets, performers and audiences of all kinds to come together to celebrate the art form that is the sonnet, a 14-line poem written in iambic pentameter.

Original sonnets, classic sonnets, collaborative sonnets and everything in between are welcome. The event also features sonnet-focused writing prompts, games and more.
