Directed by Brent Rodgers, an energetic cast and crew of over 100 students celebrate the 61st anniversary of theater at Riverside with the story of love and friendship through adversity, with a comical and macabre yet poignant spin.

“This musical is a hoot and a howl at every twist and turn. Wednesday's growing up and is ready for love, but you will have to come see for yourself to determine if her family is capable of dealing with the change as they make every effort to be normal people,” Rodgers said.

The audience will be snapping away at the contemporary musical score.

The mysterious, spooky and ghoulish Addams family is visiting the graveyard for an annual gathering of all family members, living dead, and undecided, to celebrate what it is to be an Addams. However, Wednesday decides to introduce her new "normal" boyfriend Lucas to the family. In protest, Uncle Fester enlists the help of the Addams’ ancestors to call an end to the budding romance. As Wednesday admits she is falling in love, Morticia, Gomez and Pugsley worry about her changing ways. As the families of Wednesday and Lucas come together for dinner one fateful evening, chaos ensues and the two families find themselves admitting deep secrets and coming together in ways they never would have imagined.

Rodgers said he has enjoyed working with the students

"Our upperclassmen have been true leaders to newer students who have joined the program,” Rodgers said.

The musical has brilliant choreography by Amee Boughter and is enhanced by the vibrant costumes, makeup and scenery, which have involved hours of creative work to produce a spectacle that the audience will long remember.

Producer Vaughn Hudspath said “The Addams Family” was one of the most watched on NetFlix last year and it is one of our newer musicals at Riverside and youngsters love the newer shows. They love this show even though it is based on the television show that debuted 60 years ago in 1964,” Hudspath said.

"Wednesday," based on the character Wednesday Addams, was one of the biggest shows on NetFlix last year.

“Well, the show was all the buzz as young people, especially girls, love the character of Wednesday.  It was also the No. 1 Halloween costume this year,” Hudspath said.

What’s not to like about “The Addams Family?" It has dark humor, but it’s lighthearted and impressive music and it’s all about love and family.
