Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for a fourth season on Hulu.

The news comes as the finale of season three dropped Tuesday and left the series that stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez on a cliffhanger, setting it up for another season in which the trio solves a murder mystery via their true-crime podcast.

Season three of the series welcomed the addition of guest-stars such as Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams and Ashley Park, as the group worked on a Broadway play directed by Short’s character. Short and the cast are forced to pivot after a murder occurs that threatens the production, and the characters are left with the task of constructing a musical, scored by Tony-Award winning composers, as well as solving the crime.

Asked whether Streep and Williams may return in season four, showrunner John Hoffman tells The Hollywood Reporter that there is “no greater hope.”

“There is no greater hope for me. I love them both, Jesse and Meryl, everyone. I mean, for God’s sakes, I would bring Paul back if we can. Listen, I would bring everyone back, and that might happen. Victims, killers, they’re all able to play in the landscape within this sort of certain narrative ways we can tell our stories,” Hoffman said.

The prior two seasons involved the murder of residents within the building and featured guest-stars such as Tina Fey, who also makes an appearance in season three. The series premiered on Hulu in August 2021 and has received critical acclaim, including Emmy nominations for outstanding comedy series and outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.

The series was created by Martin and Hoffman. Hoffman serves as showrunner and executive produces with Martin, Short, Gomez, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.  The series is produced by 20th Television.
