The Ones: YN Jay’s “Gotta Get Rich”

YN Jay - “Gotta Get Rich”
YN Jay calls himself the “Coochie Scout,” his upcoming mixtape’s rumored title is Coochie Land, and he renamed his birthday as “Coochie Day” on Instagram. The Flint, Michigan rapper also happens to have one of the hottest rap songs in the Midwest right now, and, of course, it’s called “Coochie.” It goes something like this: “Ooh, I hit her from the back, I beat her doonies down/She said I fuck her good, I make her coochie smile.”
Since “Coochie” hit the internet in April, YN Jay has been prolific, but “Gotta Get Rich” is his best recent release. Over a piano-heavy Sav beat, Jay goes back-and-forth between two deliveries—one a near whisper, the other a traditional Michigan rap flow—as he clowns his unnamed targets for flashing their unemployment checks. Though we know what YN Jay really wants to rap about: “You ever been to coochie land?/It’s a real island,” he says emphatically. Flint should be proud.
