The Ones: Xanman’s “You Got Servin”

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace, it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear.

Let’s be honest for a moment. Nobody actually remembers the melodramatic storyline between Marques Houston and B2K in You Got Served. What the movie is really memorable for is its opening dance battle scene soundtracked by Timbaland and Magoo’s “Drop.” On “You Got Servin,” PG County, Maryland’s Xanman delivers his barrage of wicked punchlines and quips on the classic Timbo beat, and it’s the most fun Xan has had all year. The track has every type of one-liner you could want from him: Something for the holiday season (“Pull up and I make the choppa sing like a Christmas song”), romance (“I fuck his bitch on the court, Love and Basketball”), and timely pop culture commentary (“Nate Robinson, got hit with the upper cutter”). This is now the second best thing to come from You Got Served.
