The Ones: Roddy Ricch’s “Feed the Streets 2 (Intro)”

The must-hear rap song of the day

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Roddy Ricch - “Feed The Streets 2 (Intro)”

In the last few months, Roddy Ricch has become Compton’s next great hope. He’s received a co-sign from South Central L.A.’s Nipsey Hussle, been blessed with a Dreamchasers chain from Meek Mill, and the West Coast has fallen in love with his music. On Ricch’s climbing single, “Every Season,” he displays a style that features the quirky cadences of an ATL export but lyrically he paints the picture that is unmistakably Compton. It’s why in a competitive L.A. scene, Roddy stands alone.

His latest project, Feed Tha Streets 2, aims to be Roddy Ricch’s breakout tape. Right from the jump on the intro newcomers are introduced to Ricch the melodic crooner. Like any of the well-studied students of Young Thug, Ricch can make every syllable that leaves his mouth sound catchy. His high-pitched melodies make basic flexes like, “Promethazine and Codeine in my double cup” feel irresistible. This impressive single, his refined vocals, and his knighting by Meek, are all signs of that this is just the beginning for Roddy Ricch.
