Pimp Tobi and YBN Nahmir - “Out da Mud”
Both Berkeley’s Pimp Tobi and Birmingham’s YBN Nahmir are internet rappers in the truest sense. Tobi is best known for the Geeked Up Challenges he did on Instagram in 2015, and Nahmir grew his following playing Grand Theft Auto V online, where he started his YBN collective freestyling with strangers in XBox Live parties. His breakout single, “Rubbin Off the Paint,” was produced by someone he’d never met: a student in Sweden who’d been posting “type beats” to YouTube. Now, Nahmir has unearthed Tobi’s “Out da Mud” and added a verse to it, turning what was a lost gem into a tag-team romp. El Cerrito producer Apollo Jetson provides the Bay Area bounce and the duo shuffles right through with two straight minutes of unruffled bag talk. These two rappers are curios of the SoundCloud world, and they aren’t trying to be much more than that. They’re more than willing to simply see how far having fun can take them.
