The Ones: Moose’s “20”

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Moose - “20”

Moose’s moniker is as original as his flow. On “20,” his newest single, the Milwaukee based rapper interweaves bits of narratives with exclamations, and he’s as jerky as he is capacious. He just wants to cram in as many exclamations, jokes, and asides as possible, and this desire provides the song with some of its funniest moments: “All of these rats think I know how to scam/Bitch I don’t know how to scam/If I knew how to scam/Yeah, I’d be pulling a scam.” This fractured form of communication fits juggaknot’s chaotic production—its minimal synth swells and reverberating keys match Moose’s disjointed harmonies. On “20,” Moose is so expansive that he makes the act of categorizing him irrelevant.
