The Ones: Bekah CC’s “No Change”

With artists releasing songs at a fast and furious pace it’s difficult for the average hip-hop head to keep track of it all—no matter how tapped in they are. That’s why we created The Ones, a daily post to highlight the song you need to hear curated by the Levels team. We sort through all the new songs—across all the platforms and subgenres—so you don’t have to. Thank us later.

Bekah CC - “No Change”

Suburban horrorcore? The production of “No Change,” a new track from Massachusetts newcomer Bekah CC on Bone Soda, the UK label famous for bringing slowthai to the public, is heavy on reverb and whispers. Over this haunted drone, Bekah CC observes the “dope pain” and “denial” that surround her in a dejected monotone. When she murmurs, “You want something, we can work it out,” her weary voice reflects the transitory nature of the fulfillment of desire. The video for the track zooms in on this ennui, with scenes of group pleasure turning to individual discontent. We see grainy shots of Bekah CC and her friends hanging in cars, laundromats, and parks. In a group, they seem content to revel together, but when viewed separately from the crew each individual’s loneliness seems overwhelming.
