There’s no better time to start putting together your holiday gift list. If you’re shopping for a movie buff this holiday season, the Criterion Collection will be releasing a few new movies on Blu-ray this month, including Regina King’s “One Night in Miami.”

The Criterion Collection version of King’s feature film directorial debut will be released December 7, which gives you plenty of time to pre-order the Blu-ray to give as a gift.

Adapted by Kemp Powers from his 2013 play, “One Night in Miami” shares a fictional take on a real-life meetup between Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Malcolm X, and Sam Cooke. The story unfolds at a Miami motel on the night of February 25, 1964, hours after Ali (then Cassius Clay) defeated Sonny Liston to become the world heavyweight champion.

“One Night in Miami” puts audiences in the room with four legends, each at the forefront of Black American culture but with different viewpoints on addressing racism and the Civil Rights movement.

The Criterion Collection Blu-ray features “One Night in Miami” in 4K, along with new conversations between King and filmmaker Kasi Lemmons, plus new interviews with the film’s screenwriter, cast, and crew. Also included: content on the making of the Oscar-nominated film, sound design, and a conversation between King and Berry Jenkins.

The Learning Tree,” a 1969 coming of age-story written and directed by legendary photographer Gordon Parks, is also up for pre-order. “The Learning Tree” is based on Parks’ semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, and became the first film helmed by a Black director for a major film studio. The Criterion Collection restoration will be released December 14, along with “The Red Shoes,” a 1948 British ballet drama from Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.
