In the middle of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s transition away from the royal family, there were allegations of “bullying” lodged against the Duchess of Sussex. An investigation was launched, but the final report was never released to the public. However, the couple was reportedly “disappointed” that the outcome was never heard because they reportedly seemed pleased with the final results.

That makes it seem like she was exonerated, but the palace felt that it was best to keep everything under wraps, so staff members didn’t face any backlash. The only bit of insight given from the royal family was a vague statement to The Daily Beast: “Recommendations will be taken forward. Lessons have been learned.” But, fast-forward to 2024, and the allegations against Meghan are resurfacing again.

The Sussexes’ former private secretary Samantha Cohen recently gave an interview to Australia’s Herald Sun which fanned the flames of the “bullying” claims all over again. She admitted that she was interviewed during the palace’s investigation, but she declined to speak any further about the complaint. Now, one of Meghan’s most vocal critics, author Tom Bower, is trying to revive the palace scandal. He’s using Cohen’s interview as a jumping-off point to add fuel to the fire even more.

Bower wrote an entire column in the Daily Mail hoping to grab more attention to the story. “Now, finally, that dam has been breached – and I have no doubt that more will now emerge,” he wrote. “The trickle of information will, soon enough, become a stream.” He sounds almost gleeful about the possibility that the allegations will become a royal scandal. The palace has plenty of other issues to deal with that are far more important than a now-closed investigation that wrapped up almost two years ago.

Harry and Meghan have always denied the claims and many people side-eyed the original report filed by Jason Knauf, who worked as their communications secretary along with Prince William and Kate Middleton until their households were split. He has continually sided with the Waleses in the family feud and even gave evidence against Meghan in her Associated Newspapers privacy case — he’s a controversial component to the entire story. So, while royal fans may never know the truth about what happened during Harry and Meghan’s time at the palace, there’s no need to rehash a locked-and-sealed investigation — even though Bower is strangely hoping that the story is revived in “this painful and unsatisfactory way.”
