One hurt after personal aircraft crashes in York County, sheriff’s deputies say
One person was hurt Wednesday night when a motorized personal aircraft crashed into a York County field, according to sheriff deputies and county officials.
The incident happened before 7 p.m. near S.C. 161 and Shiloh Road between Rock Hill and York, said Trent Faris, spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office.
The personal aircraft is sometimes called a paraplane and consists of a motor, fan, and parachute with a single occupant, Faris said.

The occupant was taken to a hospital for treatment, Faris said.
The occupant has not been identified and the extent of the injuries was not clear Thursday, officials said.
The Newport Fire Department and the sheriff’s office responded and emergency management was notified, officials said.
York County Emergency Management Director Chuck Haynes said the personal aircraft is for personal pleasure use and not for travel.
Federal aviation officials were notified, Haynes said.
No other information about the incident was immediately available Thursday morning.
