One Day at a Time adds guest star Ray Romano for new season

The cast of One Day at a Time is back to work on an all new season of the popular series now at Pop TV, and the comedy has already lined up its first guest star. Ray Romano will join the Alvarez family in the premiere episode (debuting March 24) where he’ll play Brian, a 2020 U.S. Census taker who visits the household to interview the family.

A tweet from the show’s official Instagram account shows Romano alongside the series stars Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Todd Grinnell, and Stephen Tobolowsky, creators Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce, and producers Norman Lear and Brent Miller.

“The first live taping of the new season is tomorrow AND our friend Ray Romano is joining us as a special guest star for the premiere,” the caption reads. “Welcome to the fam! New season of One Day At A Time premieres March 24 on @PopTV. #ODAAT”

This is a reunion of sorts for Romano and Royce, the latter of which served as executive producer on the former’s hit show Everybody Loves Raymond. Royce was also co-creator on Romano’s TNT dramedy Men of a Certain Age.

In addition to the announcement of the show’s March 24 season 4 premiere during the Television Critics Association winter tour earlier this month, Calderon Kellett also revealed that the show will have one noticeable difference: the original theme song performed by Gloria Estefan has been retired due to the show’s reduced run time.
