The ‘One Chicago’ Franchise Sparks a Wednesday Primetime Ratings Win for NBC

NBC’s “One Chicago” franchise sparked a win for the network Wednesday night in both the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and total average viewership, according to Nielsen’s live plus same-day figures. This week’s numbers rose slightly from last week to 0.63 in the demo, and maintained a total average viewership of 6.4 million.

Beginning at 8 p.m., “Chicago Med” stitched together a 0.64 in ratings and 6.9 million total average viewers. That was no match for its 9 p.m. hour where “Chicago Fire” blazed its way to the network’s highest total average viewers of the night at 7 million average viewers while drawing a 0.64 rating. NBC ended the night strong with “Chicago P.D,” which earned a 0.60 rating and drew an average viewership of 5.6 million.

Here’s how primetime went down across the major broadcasters:

As we mentioned above, NBC tied down a win in both ratings and total average viewership on Wednesday. Next up in ratings was Fox, which drew in a rating score of 0.52, and came third in total viewership at 2.8 million average viewers.

Fox kicked off primetime by catching the end of the MLB’s National League Championship Series Game Two, where the San Diego Padres beat the Philadelphia Phillies. Despite scoring a 0.73 rating — the highest individual rating of the night — and drawing 3.2 million average viewers, the hour slipped from last week’s coverage of the Padres-Dodgers game, which drew an all-time high rating of 0.95 and 4.2 million average viewers.

Following the game, Fox aired “The Masked Singer,” which earned a 0.39 rating and an average viewership of 2.5 million, beating its final show of the night, “Lego Masters,” which garnered a 0.27 in ratings and received 1.5 million average viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with 0.4 in the key demographic and earned second place in terms of total average viewership, with 2.9 million. The network started off the night strong in the 8 p.m. hour with “Survivor” drawing a rating of 0.67 and 4.9 million average viewers. Next came “Real Love Boat” at 9 p.m., which garnered a 0.26 rating and an average viewership of 1.6 million. Ending the evening was “Amazing Race,” which earned a 0.27 rating and received 2.3 million average viewers.

ABC rounded out the night in fourth place both in ratings with an average 0.37 in the demo, as well as total viewership with an average of 2.5 million viewers. “The Conners” kicked off the night with a rating of 0.51 and 3.6 million viewers, with “The Goldbergs” next with a 0.39 rating and 2.3 million average viewers. Fan-favorite “Abbott Elementary” drew in a rating of 0.48 and an average viewership of 2.5 million and “Home Economics” received a 0.36 rating with 1.9 million average viewers. Finally, “Big Sky” capped off the night with a 0.23 rating and an average viewership of 2.2 million.

The CW was fifth in ratings with an average 0.07 in the demo and in total viewers with an average of 405,000, which dropped 46,000 average viewers since last week. “Stargirl” released a new episode in its third season, which earned a rating of 0.09 and drew in 423,000 average viewers. Next up was a new episode of “Kung Fu,” which received a rating of 0.06 and an average viewership of 387,000.

Neither The CW nor Fox air primetime programming at 10 p.m.

Among the Spanish-language networks, Univision came in first with a 0.6 rating in the demo and 1.6 million total average viewers in primetime. At 8 p.m. “La Herencia, Un Legado de Amor” earned a ratings score of 0.6 in the demo and a viewership of 1.7 million on average. Next up was “Los Ricos También Lloran,” which received a 0.5 in the demo and 1.5 million total average viewers. The Liga MX soccer game closed out the night by scoring a 0.7 in ratings and 1.7 million total viewers on average.

Telemundo swept closely behind in second, averaging a 0.3 demo rating and 1.1 million total viewers. The new episode of the third season of “La Reina del Sur,” drew in a 0.5 demo rating and 1.5 million total viewers on average, while “El Fuego del Destino” received a rating of 0.2 in the demo and achieved a total viewership of 911,000 on average.
