Hugo Gélin, who previously directed “Love at Second Sight” and “Two Is a Family,” a pair of heartwarming comedies which thrived at the French box office, is serving as artistic producer on the film.

Sy stars in “French Lover” as Abel Camara, the biggest star of the moment, who crosses paths with girl-next-door Marion (Giraudeau). Neither of them suspects this will be the beginning of a great love story.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with the very talented Omar Sy and Hugo Gélin for my first film,” said Rives. “Quite simply, it is a romantic comedy made by people who love each other and make each other laugh,” she continued.

The high concept comedy will Sy’s return to lighter fare following a string of dramas, including “The Strangers’ Case,” “The Book of Clarence” and “Father and Soldier,” which he produced. The actor-producer recently launched the production vehicle Carrousel Studios with Louis Leterrier, the director of “Lupin” and “Fast X” and Thomas Benski, former Pulse Films CEO.

Sy, who is now based in Los Angeles, broke out in France with his Cesar-winning performance in “Intouchables” and became an international star with his role as Assane Diop in “Lupin,” which ranks as Netflix’s biggest French language series hit.
