Olympic Gymnast’s Emotional Tribute on ‘DWTS’ to Grandmother Who Died

On Monday’s Dancing With the Stars, Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez took a break from her rehearsal schedule to visit her ailing grandmother, Brunilda. Hernandez hoped to bring home the mirror ball trophy to share with her.

While back in Los Angeles, Laurie received the sad news that Brunilda died, from Alzheimer’s disease. The show played an inspiring message that she recorded before her death.

Hernandez gave a beautiful performance and burst into tears immediately after the dance. Host Tom Bergeron was also emotional. He said, “That was the most amazing display of courage I’ve seen in 23 seasons.”

Dancing with the Stars airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. on ABC. Watch clips and full episodes of Dancing With the Stars for free on Yahoo View.
