Olivia Rodrigo is “happier than ever” to hear that Billie Eilish wrote a song with her in mind.

Not long after Eilish, 21, revealed in an interview with The Los Angeles Times that her song “Goldwing” was written in part about feeling protective over Rodrigo, 20, the GUTS artist told the outlet that she had heard the news and thought it “was so sweet.”

In an L.A. Times interview published on Wednesday, the pop-rock star revealed that a friend told her about Eilish’s comments after they went viral in November and “thought that was so sweet.”

“Billie is such a kind, wonderful girl, and I feel very lucky that it’s not about competition — that we’re just looking out for each other,” the Grammy winner shared.

“I love that song,” she added of the track off 2021’s Happier Than Ever, which features lyrics about a young ingénue whom others see as someone worth exploiting.

Rodrigo also referred to the “Bad Guy” artist’s mention that she was compelled to write a song partially inspired by the singer-songwriter because she was the first young performer to break out into superstardom after her.

“I think for any young person in the entertainment industry, that’s a little bit of a mindf---,” the “All American Bitch” singer shared.

Last month, the “What Was I Made For?” artist first opened up about feeling akin to the “Get Him Back!” singer, who is 14 months her junior.

At the time, she reflected on how the former Disney Channel star’s rapid ascension while she was still a teenager mirrored hers in many ways. “Olivia was getting big, and she was just, like, this little dainty child,” the Grammy winner told the The L.A. Times. “I felt so nervous. I was worried about her. She came up in that acting world, and people are so weird. I don’t know — I just felt very protective over her."

She admitted, “I have a song called ‘Goldwing’ from my last album that’s kind of about her. I’ve never said that to anyone."

“I think everybody’s experiences are so individual … Nobody has had anybody else’s life, you know? But I do feel a protectiveness over Olivia,” the hitmaker added.

On the Happier Than Ever ballad, Eilish sings of a young woman at risk of being taken advantage of: “They're gonna tell you what you wanna hear / Then they're gonna disappear / Gonna claim you like a souvenir / Just to sell you in a year,” she sings before repeating, “Better keep your head down.”

Eilish and Rodrigo have had similar career trajectories since their break-out moments. Not only did each pop star go viral upon the official release of their first-ever singles — Eilish with “Ocean Eyes” at 15 and Rodrigo with “Drivers License” at 18 — they both swept the Grammys after the release of their debut albums, taking home best new artist in 2020 and 2022, respectively.

Both performers are up for a total of six Grammy nominations this year, as well. The two each received nods in the major song and record of the year categories, as well as best pop solo performance, for their hits “Vampire” and “What Was I Made For?” off the Barbie soundtrack.
