Olivia Munn is doing everything she can to get well and be here for her family.

In a new interview published on Mother’s Day, the actor spoke openly of her ongoing breast cancer battle and the surrounding medical procedures she’s had to endure to make sure she makes a full recovery.

Apart from having to undergo a double mastectomy, Munn said she had to get a “full hysterectomy.” She explained, “I took out my uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.”

It was her fifth surgery since her diagnosis. “Doing a full hysterectomy was a big decision to make, but it was the best decision for me because I needed to be present for my family,” the Violet star said.

Munn shares two-year-old son Malcom with comedian boyfriend John Mulaney. She explained that her doctors gave her the option to either have a hysterectomy or take anti-hormone medicines that would have left her nearly bedridden, so she chose the former.

“I did have one real moment of panic,” she said. “A real breakdown. Because it’s just so strange when you’ve been with this body your entire life, had your period for so long, feel when you’re ovulating, and all of a sudden it’s gone.”

Munn was diagnosed with cancer last April despite having tested negative for it two months earlier. She revealed the news in an emotional Instagram post this March. “Surprisingly, I’ve only cried twice,” she shared at the time. “I guess I haven’t felt like there was time to cry. My focus narrowed and I tabled any emotions that I felt would interfere with my ability to stay clearheaded.”

Munn said she kept all her pain private, wanting the people she knows and loves to see her once she has more energy, when she can get dressed and get out of the house, “when I can take my baby boy to the park.” In her Instagram post, she included a slide showing a framed photo of Mulaney and their son, which she placed by her hospital bed. “Thank you for fighting so hard to be here for us. Malc and I adore you. ❤️,” Mulaney wrote in the comments section.
