Ole Miss football recruiting: Four-star S Marvin Burks Jr. flips from Rebels to Missouri

OXFORD — Ole Miss football's Class of 2023 is down to 12 commitments.

Four-star safety Marvin Burks Jr. announced on Instagram on Sunday night that he's flipping his commitment from Ole Miss to Missouri.

Burks is a Missouri native and attends Cardinal Ritter College Prep in St. Louis.

The 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 316 overall prospect nationally and the No. 31 safety in the cycle.

Burks told On3 Sports that his relationship with Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz and the NIL opportunities available to him in Columbia were among the reasons for his change of heart.

Burks was one of eight four-star prospects in Lane Kiffin's recruiting class. After his departure, the 247Sports Composite ranks the Rebels' class 30th in the nation. Ole Miss comes in ninth in the SEC, just ahead of Mississippi State.

The early signing period opens for football on Dec. 21. Another key name to watch before that date is Rebels commitment Suntarine Perkins, a four-star linebacker and the No. 1 player in the state of Mississippi. He's given Ole Miss his verbal pledge, but told The Clarion Ledger on Friday that he will choose between Ole Miss and Alabama sometime in December.
