For those of you headed to the movie theater this weekend, there's a fun and tasty tie to Kentucky in the film "Argylle."
The soon-to-be-released spy thriller directed by Matthew Vaughn of the "Kingsman" series, stars Henry Cavill, Ariana DeBose, Bryan Cranston, Dua Lipa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Catherine O'Hara, and as far as Lousville-based Old Forester Bourbon is concerned, a cocktail named the "Whisker Sour."
Moviegoers who saw the second film of Vaughn's "Kingsman" series "Kingsman: The Golden Circle" (2017) know Old Forester Statesman Bourbon was created for and featured prominently in that film.
In Vaughn's newest high-action spy flick, Old Forester makes a repeat appearance, this time in a "Whisker Sour" cocktail.
“Movie fans can enjoy the 'Whisker Sour' along with other Old Forester cocktails, at movie theater bars around the country during the 'Argylle' theatrical run,” Melisssa Rift, Old Forester Master Taster, said in a news release.
The featured cocktail is a twist on the classic Whiskey Sour. The “Whisker Sour” is crafted with Old Forester Statesman Bourbon Whiskey, Cointreau, and lemonade, topped with club soda and a dash of Angostura bitters. The cocktail's name is a nod to the cat, Alfie, who is featured in the film.
In the film, Alfie belongs to Elly Conway, a successful yet introverted writer of spy thriller novels. While preparing her latest manuscript, she unwittingly becomes embroiled in the schemes of a nefarious underground crime ring. Elly taps into her academic knowledge of espionage to tackle the case.
If you really want to immerse yourself in the film, the featured cocktail is shown in a commemorative crystal rocks glass which can be purchased at Old Forester Distillery on Main Street in downtown Louisville.
"Argylle" arrives in Louisville on Friday at Baxter Avenue Theatre, Cinemark Mall St. Matthews, Cinemark Tinseltown, AMC Stonybrook, and more.
