The members of Old Dominion have come a long way since their origins in Nashville.

The "Can't Break Up Now" band won group of the year for the seventh consecutive time at the 2024 ACM Awards in Frisco, Texas, on May 16, and lead vocalist Matthew Ramsey recalled having his water turned off during the fivesome's early days.

"One thing that we have been trying to do over the past year or two is really make it a point
to take all of this in because this is a business thats like, 'Go, go, go,' to the show, and even the show is 'Go, go, go,'" began Ramsey, 46, on stage during the ceremony.

"We try, during our shows, to take a look at our fans, who are the best in the world. We're so proud of who our fans are, and thank you," he continued.

"I'm sitting in the crowd trying to take all of this in, and I thought of this moment where about 12 years ago, Geoff [Sprung] and I were sitting on my porch. We were drinking coffee, and we were talking about what we wanted this band to be," recalled Ramsey, "and we watched this dude pull up and turn my water off because I couldn't pay the bill."

The performer added, "We could not have dreamed that we wouldn't be standing here having won this thing seven years in a row. This is absolutely insane. Thank you guys so much for allowing us to continue to do this. Thank you so much."

Old Dominion is also nominated for music event of the year for "Can't Break Up Now" with Megan Moroney at the 2024 ACM Awards.

The group won its first ACM Award for new vocal duo or group of the year at the 2016 ceremony.

In an interview with ABC News Radio earlier this week, Ramsey's groupmate Trevor Rosen spoke about how it feels to win ACM Awards and shape Old Dominion's legacy as a band.

"It’s pretty cool. Even when we are at the awards show sometimes and they show clips of the old award shows [with] some of the names and the artists that you remember over the years, you think sometime down the future when people look back at the clips, we’ll be a part of that," he told the outlet.

"So [it’s] a pretty cool thing to be a part of the fabric of the history of the genre," continued Rosen.

The 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards are streaming live on Prime Video from Ford Center at The Star in Texas.
