Oklahoma City Zoo's Sanctuary Asia named 8th best zoo habitat in the nation

One of the Oklahoma City Zoo's largest habitats was ranked as one of the best zoo habitats across the country by USA Today.

Home to the zoo's elephants and several other species, Sanctuary Asia was named the 8th Best Zoo Exhibit in the Spring 2024 USA Today 10Best Readers Choice Awards.

"We want to say THANK YOU to everyone who voted last month for the Reader's Choice travel awards," the zoo said on social media.

Why Sanctuary Asia was named a top zoo exhibit in the US

According to USA Today, "the spectacular biodiversity of Earth's largest continent is on full display across Sanctuary Asia."

Completed in 2018, the 14.5 acre complex is home not only to elephants but also Indian rhinos, Komodo dragons, red pandas, Francois’ langurs, several tanuki (also known as raccoon dogs), cassowaries and Burmese tortoises.

"The surrounding structure is home to five distinct habitats that offer plenty of room for the resident elephants to roam, while the two-story Lotus Pavilion is a top dining spot, thanks to its many menu items and towering windows offering full view of the animals," USA Today said.
