“OITNB” Star Kimiko Glenn, Who Starred In 44 Episodes, Showed How Little She Makes In Royalties From The Show, And It’s So, So Low

Last week, the New Yorker wrote about just how little money cast members from the Netflix show Orange Is the New Black made.

The profile talked about how unfair the residuals for streaming platforms are, which is a key reason why SAG-AFTRA is on strike.

Kimiko Glenn has been super outspoken and transparent about all of this.

You probably remember her as Brook Soso from the show. She was on 44 episodes between 2013–2019.

A video of her showing a royalty statement went viral on TikTok.

She only made $27.30.

As this person said, that's barely enough for a Netflix subscription.

Kimiko made another video explaining why that amount was so little.

"I remember a lot of comments back when I first posted that were like 'guys guys guys they got paid up front,'" she said.

"First of all, whether we got paid up front or not, my tits live on in perpetuity. I deserve to get paid for as many streams as that shit gets."

"Second of all, we did not get paid very well ever. And when I say 'did not get paid very well.' You would die."

"People were bartenders still. People had their second jobs still. They were fucking famous as shit. They were internationally famous, couldn't go outside, but had to keep their second jobs because they couldn't afford to not. We couldn't afford cabs to set!"

Then Kimiko went even further into detail on the financials of it all on Instagram:

She explained just how much they made per day, which was $900. That $900 was taxed and added up to $1800 a month.

Then, as the show got bigger, they were taxed even more. That money then was spread between managers, lawyers, and publicists.

Ultimately, the actors from these HUGE shows that drove so many sign-ups couldn't even afford to live.

"I think it's important that we tell these stories. I think there's a widely held belief that it's the Hollywood elite and everyone has money," Kimiko said in another TikTok.
