Takeoff was killed in the early hours of Nov. 1, 2022.

At the time, he and Quavo were attending a private event together around Halloween weekend when gunshots rang out after an altercation. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner later stated that Takeoff was not the intended target.

"This morning at 2:34 a.m., officers received a call of a shooting in progress. Officers arrived there shortly thereafter — a downtown location, Billiards & Bowling Alley. They came upon a male who was deceased. That male has been identified as Kirsnick Ball, better known as Takeoff. He's a member of the Migos rap group out of Atlanta," Finner said at a press conference.

"I got many calls from Houston and outside of Houston. And everyone spoke of what a great young man this is, how peaceful he is. What a great artist.”

Takeoff’s record label, Quality Control, also confirmed the tragedy.

"It is with broken hearts and deep sadness that we mourn the loss of our beloved brother Kirsnick Khari Ball, known to the world as Takeoff. Senseless violence and a stray bullet has taken another life from this world and we are devastated," their statement read.

On Wednesday, Cardi, 31, also reflected on Takeoff’s legacy by sharing a photo of him on her Instagram Story. In the post, he stood with Quavo and Offset as they all smiled together.

In July, Quavo posted a video to his YouTube channel titled "A Conversation For The Fans." In the upload, the “Bad and Boujee” artist opened up about how he’d been coping with the loss of his relative.

“I miss him a lot and I love him,” he said. “He know I love him. That’s what we always know. So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that's it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around.”
