Officer watched sexual acts in exchange for giving inmates food, sheriff's office says

A St. Landry Parish Sheriff's correctional officer is facing charges after the sheriff's office said he gave women who were incarcerated unapproved food in exchange for watching sexual acts and lewd behavior.

Correctional Officer Eddie Taylor was seen on St. Landry Parish Jail security footage giving food to a woman who was incarcerated on Aug. 12, sheriff's office spokesperson Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux said in a release. Taylor also told the woman he spoke with her family and provided the money to post her bail.

The next day, the 33-year-old was seen on jail security footage gave more food to the same woman and suggested she perform a lewd sexual act, Thibodeaux said.

Taylor brought more food to different women who were incarcerated on Aug. 14. In the early morning hours of Aug. 15, Taylor stood outside the cell doorway and watched through the window while a woman performed a sexual act inside the cell, Thibodeaux said.

Taylor, of Opelousas, was arrested Tuesday and charged with malfeasance in office for prohibited sexual conduct with persons in the custody and supervision of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.
