With the official order of The Office reboot spinoff in place, fans who were wondering about the return of Steve Carell’s Michael Scott will be disappointed. The 61-year-old recently confirmed that people have already seen the last of his fan-favorite character. He also revealed why he won’t be back.

Steve Carell says Michael Scott won’t be in The Office reboot spinoff

The iconic manager of Dunder Mifflin, Carell’s Michael Scott, exited the original series after Season 7 and returned one last time in the series finale. That is likely to remain the final on-screen appearance of Michael Scott as Carell has stated that he definitely “won’t be showing up” in the upcoming spinoff.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of his new movie, IF, Carell said:

“I will be watching but I will not be showing up…It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that.”

Greg Daniels’ newest mockumentary comedy takes place in the same world as the original series. Besides Steve Carell, other familiar cast members of The Office including John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and Jenna Fischer are not confirmed to return either.

The Office was set in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and the upcoming spinoff will take place in the Midwestern United States. It is expected to begin production in July 2024.

As per the official logline:

“It will center around the quirky employees of a dying newspaper in the Midwestern United States. The publisher’s only shot at reviving the historic rag is by recruiting volunteer reporters.”

The cast of the untitled The Office reboot spinoff will include Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore in the lead. Their characters and the rest of the actors joining the show are yet to be revealed.

Daniels and Michael Koman are credited as creators and executive producers. Meanwhile, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Ben Silverman, Howard Klein, and Banijay Americas will also share EP credits.
