'Get Off the Shovel': Dog Hampers Owner's Snow-Clearing Attempt

A Bernese mountain dog proved no help at all when it came to shoveling snow in Gander, Newfoundland, recent video shows.

Footage by Lydia Evequoz shows Cooper the one-year-old Bernese mountain dog excitedly jumping on her shovel as she tried to work on November 12.

Evequoz can be heard saying “Cooper! Oi! Get off the shovel!” with little to no impact on the playful pup. She told Storyful that Cooper “loves to help when we are shoveling the deck by trying to chew on the shovel. He has been doing this since he was a very small puppy!”

A local meteorologist said on Friday that Gander was expecting the season’s first significant snowfall over the weekend, with up to 14.5 cm (5.7 inches) measured on Sunday. Credit: Lydia Evequoz via Storyful
