On and Off the Beaton Path

Nov. 25—The Navarro College Department of Theatre will celebrate Corsicana's 175th anniversary with a performance entitled On and Off the Beaton Path. The NC Theatre students and theatre director Dr. Shellie O'Neal have written 11 scenes highlighting some of Corsicana's colorful personalities and extraordinary events. Two performances will be given, and each has a different format.

At 7 p.m. on on Monday, Dec. 4, the performance will be in Dawson Auditorium on the NC campus, and the audience will be seated for the entire show.

At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5,, the performance will begin at either of the Pocket Parks on historic Beaton Street.

Costumed tour guides will lead audience members to various historic locations on the northern end of Beaton Street which will serve as the scenes' settings. Audience members will learn about community pillars such as Collin Street Bakery and Wolf Brand Chili, and they'll also hear about local personalities Rex Ingram, silent film actor, and K and Ida Wolens, department store owners. Audience members will stand right where Rope Walker fell and at the location of the Rio Theatre where generations of moviegoers were entertained.

Students participating in the production include Bella Allen, Cheyenne Billingsley, Gavin Bishop, Nolie Blood, Courtavious Bryant, Jasmine Clark, Jadi Collier, Bee Crowe, Christian Cuellar, Britney Delgado, Fletch Fields, Carlos Gaviria, Jonathan Hamilton, Gabe Hawthorne, Maddey Hennesey, Brandon Herrera, Skell Hough, Sol Meyer, Amya Montgomery, Cat Nazar, Jose Orozco, Jazz Primous, LaShae Richardson, Jesse Rodriguez, Jordan Stanfield, Claudia Thiry, Dartanyan Thomas, Laura Towles, and Lindsay Vaughan.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support field trips for the students to view professional theatre productions.
