All About October's Full Moon and What It Means for Your Zodiac Sign

This month's full moon coincides with a partial lunar eclipse, taking place on Oct. 28, 2023

Jack-o'-lanterns aren't the only things aglow this month!

October's full moon, nicknamed the Hunter's Moon, on Oct. 28 is going to be a spooktacular one because it also takes place during a lunar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is sandwiched directly between the moon and the sun, causing the Earth to cast a shadow on the moon. This upcoming astronomical event is going to be a partial lunar eclipse, meaning only a portion of the Moon passes through the Earth's umbral shadow.

The partial lunar eclipse begins at 3:36 p.m. ET, ends at 4:53 p.m. ET and is visible from much of the Eastern Hemisphere, including Europe, Africa, Asia, Antarctica and Oceania.

Like most full moons, many of the monikers we use to describe them have historically come from "Native American, Colonial American or other traditional North American sources passed down through generations," according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. October's full moon is called Hunter's Moon because it signals "the time to go hunting in preparation for the cold winter ahead."

Astronomical meaning aside, this extraterrestrial event is energetically significant too. "Lunar eclipses are three times more powerful and emotional than full moons," Kyle Thomas tells PEOPLE — as they "mark culminations, breakthroughs or breakdowns, triggering a crisis event that causes us to assess our most internal fears, feelings and actions."

Furthermore, Thomas — known for his cosmic guidance for celebrities, business executives and prominent influencers — says "some of the most memorable moments in our lifetimes overtimes take place near solar or lunar eclipses." This lunation will be a lunar eclipse in Taurus, "so you will likely see a major conclusion in regards to the stories and situations that have been building since that point in time," he adds.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Money on the mind, Aries? Thomas predicts a major shift might occur in your financial life, putting forth that this lunation could "shake up your income and wealth." While some may see a "financial stream end," he says a new one could appear as well.

"More money may arrive in the form of a raise, side hustle or new job offer," continues Thomas. "You may also make a hefty payment near this time too." Ultimately, he suggests keeping an eye on your expenses.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Taurus, get excited because Thomas says "one of the most important periods of your entire life is upon you" as this lunar eclipse electrifies your zodiac sign. "Major endings, breakthroughs or breakdowns could occur," he says.

Therefore, Thomas says to use this period "to release the past" and anything that "makes you happy," especially when it comes to relationships. "You will suddenly watch as a previous chapter of your life fades away right before your eyes as you step forward into a whole new era."

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Take a look in the mirror, Gemini. Thomas says you'll need to "face your past" this lunation because "karma is coming for you." He says there could be a "big shake-up around your mental and physical health," so he encourages you to speak with a specialist if you need.

Furthermore, Thomas warns that "secrets or scandals" maybe emerge from the shadows — or even some "nefarious situations" if you've been involved, he adds.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Things are looking bright in your social life, Cancer, as Thomas predicts "a huge moment around your friendships" could be arriving. "You may attend a major event or reach a milestone hope, dream or aspiration," he says.

You might have a friend parts ways with your inner circle, but Thomas says you could end up meeting new people who "radically shift your life path forever." Therefore, he encourages you to "be on the lookout for soulmates" — both platonic or romantic!

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

It's time to be heard, Leo! Thomas says this lunar eclipse "will ignite your career, as well as spotlight your ambitions and public recognition." That means an award, promotion, new job offer or publicity could be in your future!

"Some of you may even be deciding to turn your professional life in a whole new direction," Thomas says. "If a job ends near this time, search for a new job — or path — that is more fulfilling."

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Take a leap of faith, Virgo! Thomas says this lunation will "empower you with the courage to step out of your comfort zone" because now could be the time you "reach a victory around a long-distance project or travel situation."

This lunar eclipse might also have you considering immigration or pursuing further education, adds Kyle. Or if you're already in school, he says you might "hit a milestone you're proud of." Furthermore, if you're with the media, publishing or international business, Thomas says "big news awaits."

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Extreme intensity surrounding partnerships is underway, Libra. "You will now focus on how you share, give and receive," says Thomas. "If you’re in a healthy rapport, you may now decide to crank up the intimacy."

However, Thomas says if you're experiencing turbulence within your relationship, "the path to a settlement may push you in opposite directions."

Relationships aside, Thomas says you could hear news of a "large settlement, payout, scholarship or inheritance" around this lunation as well — or even, "a shift around your assets, stocks and investments."

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

An intense and pivotal moment surrounding partnerships could be in your future, Scorpio. Depending on the status of your relationship, Thomas says "you may now be making major decisions to grow to the next level together."

However, if you aren't aligning with a particular person at the moment, Thomas says this lunation "could bring an intense and dramatic separation or divorce." If single, he says to keep your eyes open for a soulmate "who has long-term potential."

In addition to romance, this pivotal moment surrounding partnerships could be job-oriented related, too. "If you’re looking for the right business partner, such as an agent, assistant, attorney or accountant, the two of you may align," Thomas adds.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Sagittarius, your daily routine might see a switch up! This lunar eclipse might bring a "major ending or turning point in regards to your employment and responsibilities," predicts Thomas. If a job ends or you choose to leave, he suggests hunting for one that is "more aligned" to your skills and schedule.

"You may instead hit a prized professional milestone if you’ve been working hard on something," continues Thomas. However, he adds that this lunar eclipse "could bring a change around your physical health, fitness, diet and exercise" as well.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Can you feel the passion, Capricorn? Thomas says this lunation has the potential to bring "a surge of energy to your passion sector, triggering a significant turning point around romance, true love, hobbies, fertility or creativity."

If you aren't in a relationship, Thomas says you could cross paths with a soulmate connection around this time — therefore, he warns you "don't miss this opportunity to put yourself out there and date up a storm!"

If you're in a committed relationship, Thomas says you can "use this energy to reignite your spark together." Also, he notes that big news surrounding children "could come to Capricorn parents."

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Get ready to feel all the emotions, Aquarius. Thomas says this lunar eclipse could bring a "big shift" to your domestic life, home and family. "A powerful ending may now be at hand, such as moving, renovating or deciding to entirely redecorate," he says.

If you're involved in real estate — or have plans to be involved — Thomas says news "may pop up that you’ve got to tackle." However, if this is to affect your family, he says "you may now be required to step in to help one of your kindred."

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Keep an open mind, Pisces. This lunar eclipse "will empower your zone of communications, intellect and ideas," says Thomas. "Some of you may now releasing a significant writing, speaking or advertising initiative before the world."

"You may now have many people engaging with your ideas," Thomas continues. "Educational matters are also favored at this time. However, this lunar eclipse may instead propel to you to travel, visiting nearby destinations or head off on a road trip."
