Ocean City heats up with fine wines at Fager's Island, a big Christmas party at Seacrets

As Delmarva’s beach towns continue to draw more and more transplants, they feel less and less like seasonal destinations. Local businesses have responded in kind, with a larger number of fall and winter entertainment options than back in the day.

In Ocean City, Fager’s Island has an afternoon bash scheduled this weekend for those who appreciate fine wines. This year’s edition of the Winter Wine Fest will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 ($72). The live music soundtrack will be provided by party act Making Waves, which specializes in rock and pop radio hits from the ‘80s and ’90s.

Looking ahead a week in OC, locals are gearing up for an annual event that has become a beach tradition. The Ocean 98 & Seacrets Listener & Appreciation Christmas Party will take place at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15.

Performers will include Nelly’s Echo, Ted Bowne of Passfire, Howi Spangler from Ballyhoo, No Right Way, The Rogue Citizens and headliner Love Seed Mama Jump. Admission is free, but patrons are asked to bring a new, unwrapped gift for the Toys For Tots charity.

Safari Soiree Winter Gala a hot ticket in Dewey Beach

In Dewey Beach, tickets are going quick for next month’s Safari Soiree Winter Gala. Only 211 tickets remain for the annual, semi-formal event that will be held inside the sprawling Lighthouse Cove Event Center at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 ($99). It will include performances by the Blue Cat Blues Band (8 to 9:30 p.m.) followed by Royals (10 p.m. to midnight).

Located west of Lewes, the dinner-concert venue known as The Room at Cedar Grove has a busy December schedule. At 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, acoustic bluesman Chris English will return to the stage ($35 includes dinner).

The business’s owner himself, multi-instrumentalist Paul Cullen, will be joined by guitarist David Aman from the band Hot Sauce and guest vocalist Carol Heimbach at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 ($40).

'The Sound of Music,' a 'Peanuts' concert at Milton Theatre

Elsewhere in coastal Sussex County, the Milton Theatre’s 10-show run of its own stage production of "The Sound of Music" continues at various times and dates through its matinee conclusion at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 ($27 to $43).

Later in the day on Sunday, Dec. 10, the theater will host its annual concert by the Cartoon Christmas Trio at 7:30 p.m. ($20, $25). The threesome specializes in music by Vince Guaraldi, the composer of the “Peanuts” soundtracks.

Back in Maryland, the Burley Oak Brewing Co. in Berlin has a treat for fans of psychedelic music next week. Local jam band The Schitzophrenic Boogiemen will rock the house from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, and admission is free.
