Get Obsessed with Kevin Bacon in the First Trailer for ‘I Love Dick’ (Video)

“Dear Dick, this is about obsession,” narrates Kathryn Hahn in the first trailer for the new Jill Soloway series “I Love Dick.”

This seems like an understatement if the trailer is any indication. The new series from “Transparent” creator Soloway, and based on the 1997 novel of the same name by Chris Kraus, follows a married couple — played by Hahn and Griffin Dunne — as they both fall for the same professor. This is the eponymous Dick, who’s played here by Kevin Bacon in a cowboy hat.

The book was presented as a series of letters written by Chris, and a lot of that is brought over into the show. The trailer is filled with the beginnings of many of these messages, allowing viewers to hear the phrase “Dear Dick” repeated over and over.

According to Amazon, the book is “the most important book about men and women written in the last century” as it explores the female gaze and how we present desire in stories. In the case of Soloway’s show, we’ll get the added bonus of seeing it depicted on screen.

“I Love Dick” was one of three pilots — including “Jean-Claude Van Johnson” and “The Tick” — that were picked up by Amazon last year for 2017 premieres. This is the first show to get a trailer.

It’s set to premiere on the streaming service on May 12.
