Ava DuVernay and Colbert Share Secrets of Obama’s Star-Studded Birthday

On Tuesday’s The Late Show, filmmaker Ava DuVernay and Stephen Colbert let out some top secret information about President Obama’s hush-hush 55th birthday party. DuVernay explained the security measures taken by the White House to ensure a fun party: “They took your phone. They took your I.D. You had to go through clearance to get into the party.”

Few details about the party have been leaked, but Colbert and DuVernay revealed that the guest list included Magic Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Usher, Nick Jonas, Janelle Monae, Paul McCartney, and Ellen Degeneres. With all that talent at one party, DuVernay explained that the dance battle was bound to be epic. Usher and Janelle Monae both began to battle with Ellen Degeneres joining in. Then the surprise dance battler was Stephen Colbert himself. Colbert joked that it was his “brief flirtation with cool.”

The Late Show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
