Though Adam Brody may recall the early days of his fame from The O.C. as rather tame, Rachel Bilson has a distinctly different memory.

In Alan Sepinwall, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s new tell-all book, Welcome to the O.C., which looks back at the hit Fox series in honor of its 20th anniversary, Bilson, 42, recalled a moment from a 2004 appearance on MTV’s Total Request Live where Brody, 43, “was getting swarmed by a mass mob” — and she got away.

The actress revealed that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen came to her aid and “rescued me and threw me in their car.”

“I left Brody behind because I was so nervous and didn’t know what to do,” Bilson said.

But the Olsen twins, now 37, were already thinking about the actor, who was Bilson’s love on and off-screen at the time. "They were like, ‘Don’t you need to get your boyfriend?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, we’ve got to go get him,'" Bilson recalled.

Back in the Times Square studio, Brody “was being mobbed,” she said.

The Welcome to the OC, B*tches! podcast host’s recollection of the attention her costar received contradicted what Brody himself had described earlier in the book.

When asked about the early days of the show, Brody said, “We all hung out so much that I felt in a bubble. I didn’t have many Beatles moments.”

In response, Bilson mentioned the incident at TRL when she “left him behind by accident” and he was “swarmed.”

“I don’t want to say he’s lying because he may not remember,” she said before describing the fanfare he received.

Regardless, as she noted: “He stands corrected.”

In the book, Bilson also reflected on the fame that she garnered for her role as socialite Summer Roberts on the show — and the perks of the lifestyle.

“There were definitely these very lavish things being brought to me, which I always was grateful for and never took for granted. It was pretty amazing,” she recalled of the early days of fame. “And going to the parties and getting to wear the fancy clothes and all of that is alluring. And there’s fun, for sure, to be had.”

She clarified, though: “But it was also bizarre, especially being followed and having your picture taken eating a bagel.”

The oral history of the hit Fox series, which aired from 2003 to 2007, comes after the show celebrated the 20th anniversary of its premiere in August.

In commemoration, several of the show’s stars shared tributes on social media as they reflected on the fame they garnered from it.

Ben McKenzie — who skyrocketed to fame for his role as the show’s lead, troubled teen Ryan who had just moved to Orange County, California — wrote on Instagram, “I keep showing my kids pics to prove how cool I used to be, but for some reason they don’t seem to get it. ♥️ #theoc.”

Melinda Clarke, who played Julie Cooper, mom to Mischa Barton’s Marissa Cooper, expressed her shock at how fast time flies as she celebrated the anniversary of the premiere. "Wait Whut?! We’re how old? #20yearstoday #foreveryoung,” she wrote on Instagram as she shared a throwback photo with her co-star Peter Gallagher.
