NYC Mayor Eric Adams and his team have a tough decision to make regarding Diddy and his key to the city after footage recently surfaced of him assaulting Cassie. One New York City councilman believes that Nas should be his replacement.

TMZ spoke with several members of the NYC council who were firm on the fact the Bad Boy founder should no longer lay claim to such an honor. “Mayor Adams should immediately revoke Diddy’s key to the city,” Sandy Nurse said. “As an abuser, Diddy lost his right to have such an honor and should be held accountable for his actions. Mayor Adams should set the example and take it away.”

Shaun Abreu echoed the sentiment, saying “Mayor Adams should snatch back Diddy’s key and slam the door behind him. We won’t be missing you.” Councilman Justin Brannan took things a step further, suggesting that his “G.O.A.T” Nas be given the key if it is taken away from the mogul after just receiving the honor in September 2023.

Mayor Eric Adams expressed his feelings on CNN’s footage and how he and his team plan to move forward in an interview with PIX11 this week. “I think all of us were deeply disturbed by watching that chilling video of the young lady being assaulted by him,” he said. “The committee and the team, we’ve never rescinded a key before, but we are now sitting down to see what the next steps forward are going to be […] We are taking everything under analysis and the team will come back [to] me with a final determination.”

The horrific footage showed Diddy grab Cassie by the neck as she attempted to get on an elevator and throw her to the ground while they stayed at a now-closed Los Angeles hotel in 2016. He kicked her twice, collected her belongings from the floor, and tried to drag her back to their hotel room all while holding a towel around his waist. Later in the video, he was seen throwing objects at her.

As the footage made its rounds on social media and people condemned the former REVOLT chairman for his actions, he attempted to take accountability via an apology video on Instagram. “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life,” he said. “Sometimes you gotta do that. I was f**ked up. I mean, I hit rock bottom but I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I’m disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it, I’m disgusted now.”

Diddy’s apology did more harm than good as people recalled his December 2023 statement where he denied all allegations. Beyond that, they were frustrated that he did not specifically address Cassie. TMZ discovered that this was an intentional omission, as their November 2023 settlement forbade both parties from mentioning each other’s names in public. TMZ learned that Diddy allegedly wanted to address her, but could not and his lawyers even reviewed the video to ensure he did not break their strict NDA.
