*NSYNC have released “Better Place,” the boy band’s first song in over 20 years. The comeback single comes off the soundtrack for Trolls Band Together, the third installment of the Justin Timberlake-starring, animated musical film franchise.

Aptly sharing the message that “When we’re together, you know that we do it better,” *NSYNC lean into their pop sensibilities on “Better Place.” Produced by Shellback — who also collaborated with Timberlake for the first Trolls movie — the single features the ’70s-inspired, disco sound that made the first film’s smash hit, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” so irresistible. As a driving kick drum holds down the bottom, funky guitars and the boy band’s iconic blend of voices provide color over top, with a grooving bass line gluing everything together.

In a behind-the-scenes video released on September 15th, Timberlake called the song “a love letter to our fans” and shared that he was “honored” to have the group come together for the recording. “I love you guys,” he said as their studio time came to a close. “That shit is epic.”

“Better Place” arrives after the quintet of Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lance Bass shared the stage at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards to present Taylor Swift with the Best Pop Award and friendship bracelets. In her acceptance speech, Swift called the group “pop personified.”

According to Billboard, there are no plans in the works for *NSYNC to return for a 2024 tour, though earnings for such a trek are estimated at just above $100 million. In the meantime, fans will just have to enjoy the group’s most recent on-screen appearance via Hot Ones.

*NSYNC previously reunited for a medley performance at the 2013 MTV VMAs ahead of Timberlake accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. They’ve officially been on hiatus since 2004, but released their final single, a remix of The Neptunes-produced “Girlfriend” featuring Nelly, in early 2002.

Trolls Band Together hits in theaters on November 17th. The voice cast features Timberlake and fellow returning stars Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Anderson .Paak along with newcomers like Troye Sivan, Camila Cabello, Eric André, Kid Cudi, and Amy Schumer.
