President Obama Gets an Anger Translator, Thanks to 'Key & Peele'

Now that he doesn’t have to run for office anymore, President Obama can finally say what’s really on his mind. Or at least have someone else do it for him.

During his speech at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Obama welcomed to the stage Key & Peele star Keegan-Michael Key, who plays Obama’s “anger translator” Luther in a recurring sketch on the hit Comedy Central series. Usually, Key’s co-star Jordan Peele plays the part of Obama, but here, he got to stand behind the real thing.

While Obama made fairly innocuous statements about the state of the nation, “Luther” dispensed some real talk (”Hold onto your lily-white butts!”), taking swipes at Fox News, CNN’s Ebola coverage, and Ted Cruz. (Almost as funny as the jokes are the stone-faced reactions of audience members like Jane Fonda and Wolf Blitzer. Guess they’re not Key & Peele fans.)

The highlight: Luther comparing Hillary Clinton’s formidable fundraising prowess to another ambitious blonde on Game of Thrones. “Oh yeah! She gonna get that money! She gonna get all the money! Khaleesi is coming to Westeros!”

But when the topic turned to climate change, Obama didn’t even need Luther; he got plenty angry on his own. “It is crazy! What about our kids? What kind of stupid, shortsighted, irresponsible…” Obama ranted, until Luther cut him off.

“You don’t need an anger translator,” Luther finally told the commander-in-chief. “You need counseling.”

Key & Peele returns July 8 on Comedy Central.
