You can now add your COVID vaccine card to your Apple Wallet. Here’s how

Apple users are now able to put their COVID-19 vaccination records in their Apple Wallet, a feature that has been requested for most of this year.

The feature was released Monday in Apple’s iOS 15.1. The software update allows people with iPhones to retrieve their vaccine records directly from their Wallet

First, you’ll need to make sure you have the latest software downloaded. To do this, go to “Settings,” then “General” and “Software Update.” From there, you’ll follow the steps to download the update.

Once you have iOS 15.1, you’ll be able to add your COVID-19 records in several ways that Apple outlined Monday.

What to do if you received QR code?

Vaccinated people in some states received a QR code with their COVID records, making it easier to scan the documents into their phone.

Open your camera app and select your rear-facing camera, then hold your device so that the code appears on your screen. Tap the Health app notification that appears on your screen.

You can then tap “Add to Wallet & Health” to add the record to the apps.

What to do if you received downloadable file?

Other records are accessible by a downloadable link, which may have been emailed to you after receiving your vaccine.

The process is just as simple, as you’ll tap the download link on your iPhone to begin the process. Then you can tap “Add to Wallet & Health” to add the record.

What to do if your vaccine card is in your Wallet?

Apple users already had the option to add their verified vaccination record into their Health app. The company has now made it easier to access the card in your Wallet.

Open the Health app if you already have the vaccine record there, then tap “Summary.” Under “Vaccination Record,” you’ll want to tap “Add to Wallet” to complete the process.

What else to know?

Many venues and restaurants that require a COVID-19 vaccination for entry allow you to show your vaccine records on your phone, but it’s always smart to make sure before you leave your home.

Once your vaccination card is in your Wallet, you can access it at any time. It shows your name, which vaccine you received, when you received your shot(s), who issued it, and the QR code.

The vaccine card in your Wallet can’t be shared with other Apple users.
