Dennis Rader became known as the notorious BTK serial killer for terrorizing Wichita, Kansas from 1974 – 1991. Rader, who reportedly named himself BTK – bind them, torture them, kill them — strangled eight adults and two children while living a double life as a hands-on father, Cub Scout leader and churchgoer.

Rader’s first victims, in January 1974, were parents and their two children. Three months later, he stabbed a woman to death after watching her enter her home, and three years after that, he strangled a young mom after getting her children settled in the bathroom with toys and blankets.
