Nothing beats a sandwich at the beach: Here's where to go for your beach picnic needs

There’s nothing quite like the joy of walking out of the water and up the sand, back to wherever you’ve set up camp, and enjoying a refreshing sandwich in the sun.

It’s an essential part of the summer - even when you have to fight off the seagulls.

Whether you’re preparing for a day baking away under the sun’s rays or sunset-watching, here are a few places on the Cape to go and get everything you need for a beach picnic.

Timmy’s Roast Beef in West Yarmouth

Timmy’s Roast Beef in West Yarmouth is a great place to stop off on the way to the beach for some picnic essentials. With a to-the-point menu of sandwiches, appetizers, and sides, there’s certainly something for everyone.

Try one of their 13 sandwiches, like the “Mega Roast Beef,” or a sub, like the chicken parm. Or if you’re looking for more than just a sandwich, chicken fingers, wings and onion rings are just some of the appetizers and sides up for grabs.

A hot dog is $4.50, and sandwiches go up to $14.99. Subs are all $12.99. Appetizers and sides range from $3.25 for a small fry to $16.95 for a large order of hot wings.

Timmy’s also has combo options — small, regular and super — consisting of a sandwich, side, and drink, available as well. Combo meals range from $10.75 to $14.99.

Timmy’s Roast Beef is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Far Land Provisions in Provincetown

Provincetown is known for many things and its beaches certainly don’t disappoint. If you’re heading down to the National Seashore in Provincetown, check out Far Land Provisions.

At Far Land, you can find your deli staples, including sandwiches and salads and even a selection of prepared foods. Sandwiches range from $9 to $10.50 featuring Cape Cod-themed items like the “Race Point” and “Herring Cove.” But you can also build your own sandwich for $9.50 plus extras.

Salads start a $6.50 for a garden salad and go to $12.95 for a steak and blue cheese salad. Their online menu doesn’t feature any prices for prepared foods but lists items like Jamaican beef patties and spicy chicken wings.

If you want to skip the trip to the store, Far Land has an on-the-beach location near Herring Cove. Their beach menu has sandwiches, salads, and sides with a selection of ice cream and other desserts as well. However, their on-the-beach food truck is cash only, so be sure to bring a few bucks with you.

Far Land Provisions is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sam’s Deli in Eastham

Self-acclaimed as being Eastham’s No.1 deli and sandwich shop, Sam's Deli does have a good array of options to choose from. From sandwiches — the 20 plus of them — to salads and deli favorites like curried chicken salad, it would be hard not to find everything you need here.

Sandwiches start at $10.95 and go up to $13.95 — excluding the $28.99 lobster roll. If you can’t find something you like from their long list of options, you can build your own sandwich for $10 or $11 depending on if you want a veggie sub or not. Salads range from $9.95, including the build-your-own option, and go up to $10.95. Deli sides and salads are $3.95 to $5.75 for a small portion and go up to $19.95 for a large portion.

Sam’s Deli is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. but the sandwich bar closes at 3 p.m.

Lambert’s Farm Market in Sandwich

Whether you like your sandwiches hot or cold at the beach, there’s a variety to choose from at Lambert’s Farm Market. Pick something traditional, like ham and cheese or roast beef and provolone, or something new and special like the “Victor Hugo” or “Chairman’s Club.” Cold sandwiches range from $11.99 to $15.99.

If you’re looking for something warm, they have a selection of paninis and subs as well. Paninis go for $11.99 to $15.99. For subs, the meatball is their mainstay at $14.99, but there is a sub of the day, like sausage and peppers, each day.

Lambert’s also has a selection of salads and soups to go, and pizzas by the slice, amongst other prepared food options.

They are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Holly’s Deli in West Dennis

Holly’s Deli in West Dennis is a local favorite, judging from their Facebook page, and it’s easy to see why. With a variety of options to choose from, all $15 and under, Holly’s might just be a must-go before you hit the beach.

Sandwiches, both signature and standard, range from $8.50 to $12. Salads come in two sizes, half and full, and range in price from $9 to $15 depending on size. A hot dog costs $3.50 plus additional charges for chili and cheese. Deli salads, like seafood salad and egg salad, are $8.50.

Holly’s Deli is open Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
