Noted Antiques Dealer Puts $4.2M Price on Lindsay Lohan’s Former Sierra Towers Condo

More than 15 years ago, when riding high as a promising young actress and budding wild child, right around the time the world began to care endlessly about the comings, goings, and naughty shenanigans of teen sensation-turned-tabloid tart Lindsay Lohan, she shelled out $1.975 million for a decrepit apartment situated on a high-floor of the iconic, celeb-packed Sierra Towers building that rises above the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills.

Well, don’tcha know the teen queen soon changed her mind and lickety-split the 27th-floor city- and mountain-view aerie returned to the market at $2.85 million.

So the unconfirmed scuttlebutt went back then, Lohan, who never moved in but did gut the place, purchased the apartment as part of an agreement with a magazine. The deal was, allegedly, that the magazine would pay for the renovation and decoration of the apartment and, once it was finished, the publicity magnet was to sit for a multi-page article showing off her trendy new home.

At the time, Lohan was shacked up and running up a big bill at the Chateau Marmont. Alas, she was, allegedly, asked to vacate the premises due to her frequent racket making. Rather than quickly gussying up her condo at Sierra Towers, the Freaky Friday star instead leased a condo on a lower floor of the same building. Strange are the real estate ways of the rich and famous, folks.

The price eventually dropped to just under $2.5 million before it was sold, in August 2007, without a functioning kitchen or bathroom, for $2.3 million to antiques dealer Lee Stanton, a pillar of L.A.’s tight knit design community.

Discerning tastemakers, collectors and interior decorating professionals with a penchant for pricey 17th, 18th and 19th century British and European antiques well know his eclectic showroom in the heart of L.A.’s La Cienega Design Quarter. The Ohio native-turned-traditional style guru renovated the 2,100-square-foot condo and refashioned it, according to a 2015 article in Elle Decor, into an “urban aerie filled with a collector’s cabinet of singular antiques.”

There are wide plank bleached Belgian oak floorboards throughout, while stained black oak cabinets with stainless-steel detailing enhance the dining room, kitchen and butler’s pantry. Originally configured with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms, Stanton combined two of the bedrooms into a spacious master retreat. He’s now put it on the market for $4.28, listed with Jeffrey Hobgood of Sotheby’s International Realty.

Among Stanton’s many curios and treasures are an 18th-century bibliotheque cabinet in the living room, sourced in Tuscany, that is so big it had to be hauled up on top of the elevator cab, while one of the condo’s biggest draws is the 40-foot-long terrace that provides view of the ocean to the west, the verdant hills to the north, and snow-capped Mount Wilson to the east.

Former and current residents of Sierra Towers include Elton John, Sidney Poitier, Joan Collins, Courtney Cox, Kelly Osbourne, David Geffen, Vincent Gallo, and Cher, the last three of whom all owned the same duplex unit that Hong Kong billionaire Karen Lo has been trying to sell on and off for a couple of years.

Stanton also maintains homes in Laguna Beach and Montecito, the former he picked up way back in 1996 and the latter he acquired about two years ago for $1.7 million.

As for Lohan, she went on to date socialite DJ Samantha Ronson before her Hollywood career sorta fell apart. She moved to Europe where she ended up engaged to London-based Russian millionaire Egor Tarabasov but soon called it off with allegations of abuse and theft. Since 2018, she’s made her home in Dubai, and recently announced to her 9.7 million Instagram followers that she’s engaged to financier Bader Shammas.

Lohan claims she hasn’t been back to L.A. in a decade, and has no plans to return. But, if she changes her mind, certainly there are far worse options she and her new fiancé could keep as a pied-a-terre than her former, and formerly forlorn apartment that’s now a showpiece of traditional design behind floor-to-ceiling plate-glass windows 27 floors in the air.
