It's not Jordin Sparks' first time performing the national anthem at the Indy 500

Jordin Sparks will be returning to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to sing the national anthem for the 108th running of the Indy 500.

Who is Jordin Sparks?

Jordin Sparks is a singer and actress who won season six of American Idol at age 17.

Sparks' popular singles have sold more than 10 million digital tracks in the U.S., according to a news release from the speedway. Her hits include "No Air," "Tattoo," "Battlefield" and "Call My Name."

She has appeared on many TV shows, typically guest starring as herself, but sometimes in other acting roles as well.

She guest starred on Disney Channel's "Suite Life On Deck" in 2009, Nickelodeon's "Big Time Rush" in 2010, as well as making appearances on shows like "Wild'n Out" and "RuPaul's Drag Race," as a guest judge in 2015, and as a competitor on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2022.

In the 2012 film "Sparkle," Sparks played the title character — a talented singer-songwriter trying to pursue her dreams while appeasing her strict mother, played by the legendary Whitney Houston.

Jordin Sparks on Broadway

On Broadway,Sparks has starred in Lin-Manuel Miranda's "In the Heights" and "Waitress," with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles.

Winning American Idol launched her career, but Sparks has also won several awards and accolades throughout her career.

Spark's has won an NAACP Image Award, BET Award, Teen Choice Award, American Music Award, People's Choice Award, Soul Train Award and was nominated for a Grammy in 2023.

If she seems familiar, Sparks has sung the national anthem at other events over the years, from the Kentucky Derby to the Super Bowl, as well as at the 99th running of the Indy 500 in 2015.
